As the people of Ontario know, yesterday the Provincial Government brought forward new restrictions that govern gatherings, retail capacity limits, recreational activities, construction and even interprovincial travel.
CFIG is providing our members with the copy of the regulations that will shortly be posted and in particular would draw your attention to the new 25% capacity limits that are now in effect for grocery stores.
See Section 1. As well, in Section 43 (f) and (g) would be of interest in that they allow for construction activities or projects that “provide for additional capacity in the production, processing, manufacturing or distribution of food, beverages or agricultural products” to continue or commence. Also allows for projects that “provide additional capacity for businesses that provide logistical support, distribution services, warehousing, storage or shipping and delivery services.”
Just a reminder that CFIG urged all provinces to add grocery workers to their priority list of essential workers for vaccination. Ontario has done this and yet different criteria in different regions of the province, along with a lack of supply, has prevented grocery workers and other essential service workers on the priority list, from receiving vaccines.
We continue to urge the province to deal with this as an urgent issue—-if it is not—many stores will face operational challenges in just being able to keep their doors open.
