Membership Types

The Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) represents and supports independent grocery retailers and the companies that work alongside them. Through advocacy, industry programs, education, and national events, CFIG helps strengthen Canada’s independent grocery sector.

Our membership community includes independent grocery retailers, suppliers, service providers, and individuals engaged in work allied to the grocery industry.

Retailer Membership

Retailer Membership supports independent grocery businesses across Canada, including grocery stores, co-operative grocers, independent grocery distribution companies, independently managed grocery businesses, and e-commerce or online retailers.

Retailer Membership is available to:

  • Independent Grocery Stores
  • Co-Operative Grocers
  • Active Independent Grocery Distribution Companies operating in Canada
  • Independently Managed Grocery Stores or Distribution Companies
  • E-commerce / Online Retailers (developing category)

An Independently Managed Grocery Store or Distribution Company independently manages and controls the day-to-day operations of its business without undue influence by any publicly traded controlling shareholder or other entity having an ownership interest in the business.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership is for suppliers or other businesses providing services, goods, or products to Independent Grocery Stores.

This may include:

Suppliers & Manufacturers

Grocery distributors, wholesalers, brokers and related partners

Service Providers

Businesses providing operational, technology, equipment or other services

Professional Services

Marketing, consulting, legal, media and other business services

Associate Members receive six (6) complimentary passes to each of CFIG’s major trade shows, plus discounted delegate rates, member-exclusive exhibitor rates, sponsorship opportunities and additional member benefits.

Affiliate Membership

Affiliate Membership is for individuals engaged in work allied to the grocery industry.
