How It Works

It’s a Master Class in Retail Excellence.

A Regional Juror conducts a deep-dive, in-store evaluation covering:

  • Exterior & first impressions (parking lot, curb appeal)
  • Customer touchpoints (entrance to exit)
  • Fresh departments & centre store (including HABA)
  • Operational standards (cleanliness, food safety, front-end efficiency)

Each participant receives:

  • A detailed store analysis
  • A copy of the evaluation form
  • The opportunity for a personal consultation with the Regional Juror

All juror decisions are final.

Competition Categories

Stores are evaluated alongside peers of similar scale

Category Store Size
Small Up to 14,999 sq. ft.
Medium 15,000 – 24,999 sq. ft.
Large 25,000+ sq. ft.

The CFIG’s Independent Grocer of the Year award represents top-level recognition of our hard work and dedication at our European food experience grocery chain. We are always excited to share these wins with our team so they know their efforts have contributed to this success.
The feedback we’ve received from the scoring process throughout the years has also contributed to our growth. It’s helped our team learn and improve, and for that we are grateful.

Anna BelahovChief Business Development Officer, Yummy Market

Being involved in IGYA has proven to be great exposure for our business over the years. It’s great promotional material for the awards we have received , the grading is a very valuable tool for staff training purposes, it keeps us updated and informed when advancing our strategies to increase our customer base, and year after year has been an overall beneficial experience that other grocers should strongly consider to stay ahead of their competition.
