shortages is significant.  It is also one of the top concerns of a wide spectrum of businesses that encompass the entire economy.

CFIG has raised this issue with the main party leaders in the last federal election. We have also aligned ourselves with a national business coalition that, representing dozens of other business associations, have submitted a paper to government that recommends changes to the Immigration system and the Temporary Foreign Worker program.  These proposals are constructive and would help alleviate the critical labour issue confronting businesses in our country.  CFIG was pleased to become a signatory to this paper.

The Coalition prepared a template letter for each association to send to Members of Parliament.  We have attached this template letter which we altered just slightly to reflect a bit of the independent grocer perspective.

We have also attached the paper which CFIG is supporting and asking you to help us ensure each and every MP, regardless of party, takes some time to read prior to Parliament reconvening later this month.   Having a constituent business owner sending this letter and paper to an MP, is much more impactful than having it come from an association that does not vote in the MP’s riding.   All you need to do is send the letter, after filling out the date, your MPs name and affixing your own name, along with the Coalition paper, to your MP by email.

CFIG is also providing the updated contact list for all MP’s following this year’s election.   We would also ask if you can send us an e-mail, just confirming that you have sent this information to your MP.   In this way, we can cross reference how many MPs have been contacted and in which party caucus.  This is of critical importance.  If you can email gsands@cfig.ca.    Only with this confirmation can we know that our message is being delivered.

Thank you for your support.  Together, as we have on other issues, independent grocers can make a difference.
