As all independent grocers, certainly in Ontario are aware, on July 8th the Ontario government announced that the Ontario Food Terminal (OFT) located in Etobicoke, would not be moved to another location.
Following that announcement, the MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, Christine Hogarth, has written to her Conservative caucus colleague, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (see letter) asking him to designate the lands on which the OFT sits to be designated as a Provincially Significant Employment Zone (PSEZ).
Such a designation would make it much more difficult for the current or former governments to arbitrarily decide to relocate the OFT.
CFIG has written to Ms. Hogarth extending our appreciation for the support she has provided for the Terminal remaining in its current location and indicating we agree with the PSEZ designation for the Terminal.
