In the U.S. retail sales of specialty food rose to $51.23 billion in 2014, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Specialty food’s share of retail U.S. food sales to 15%, according to the Specialty Food Association’s figures.

Experts say the category’s share could even be higher as it does not include sales data from supermarket chains such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.
