Independent grocers like Fiesta Farms in Toronto are counting on getting a fair shot at alcohol sales.
In a Toronto Star report, Joe Virgona, Fiesta Farms’ owner, said he sees his store on Christie St. as a destination point for consumers looking for craft brews.
“I hope we don’t get shut out … I’d be damaged badly,” Virgona said in the report. “It’s about holding on to our customers.”
CFIG is pushing for a minimum of 15 per cent of alcohol sales licences set aside for independents — the same as their market share of the grocery business.
“The government should be staying away from store size and an expensive auction,” Tom Barlow, CEO of CFIG told the Toronto Star.
