Retailer Membership Eligibility

Retailer Membership is available to:

  • An Independent Grocery Store
  • A Co-Operative Grocer
  • An Active Independent Grocery Distribution Company operating in Canada
  • An Independently Managed Grocery Store/Distribution Company — a grocery business that independently manages and controls the day-to-day operations of its business without undue influence by any publicly traded controlling shareholder or other entity having an ownership interest in the business
  • E-commerce/online retailers (developing category)

Policy Advocacy

CFIG engages governments, ministers, regulators, and decision-makers on issues that directly affect independent grocers. Our advocacy focuses on key areas such as alcohol policy, grocery regulation, payment and interchange fees, labour programs, and food affordability.

Member Guidance and Support

We help members navigate policy and regulatory changes by providing guidance on issues such as the Grocery Code of Conduct, identifying systemic concerns affecting retailers, and supporting issue resolution when challenges arise.

Affordability and pricing policy

Responding to policy proposals and government actions that may unfairly place pressure on grocers, including retail price interventions and grocery pricing studies.

Supply chain and inspection issues

Raising concerns where government changes may negatively affect grocery operations and the broader food supply system, including opposition to cuts affecting the Destination Inspection Service.
